I have an old F30 When I first start it it takes a little while for oil pressure to go up why is this. What weight oil should I be running? Thanks for any help.

Some fittings will squeeze the tiny pressure tube to the point that it just passes a tiny trickle of fluid to make the gauge go upward. When you shut it off when the engine is cold, does the gauge drop slowly? if so this may be it. Air in the line also causes this to happen. JimN

Yes there should be filter in the canister. (unless of course it doesnt have a canister) As for oil, in my F-12 I use straight 30 weight. Id recommend 30 weight cause I believe thats what the manual says, but those old tractors arent real picky, theyll take just about any oil you put into them.

(quoted from post at 22:22:30 11/19/08) Thanks sir what oil should I run in it and should I be using a filter element

Do you know what it had? I've never tried to find out the hard way, but if that was a non-detergent [check around in straight weight 30, you'll likely find some labeled as such], supposedly using 'modern' oil can exagerate leaks.

So, give it what it knows; if you don't know, I'd give it some non-det 30. Since I have a few that don't get touched for several months, I've thought about synthetic [thinking it may have a better long term film and winter better], but never tried that either.

10-40 or 15-40 is great and helps with cold weather starting. If the old oil is near curdled and black, two changes might be reasonable within 10 hours of operation. JimN

On Cubs, As, Bs, Cs, and Super versions, the oil pressure gauge is on the filter canister. At least on my two Cub engines, the oil drains back into the oil pan when I shut the engine down. It takes 10-15 seconds for the canister to fill and the pressure to come back up.

Frankly, I've never paid attention to my Super A or Dad's Super C.
