Pull axle on H ? Matched ring pinion?

Hi- can you pull the axle shaft with out the whole housing? Also can you change out the ring gear with mis matched one? My ring gear looks good but the pinion got the tip chewed off where the little bearing goes and wiped out the inside of the drive shaft gear. Lots to do just trying to keep the parts as light as I can to save last summers back surgery from going bad. Thanks for help, DAN.

Well you can just change the pinion, but it will make one heck of a racket. So if your changeing the pinion you should change the ring gear with it cause each ring and pinion are made as a matched set.

As far as the axle pulling yes. You just need to remove the bearing/seal retainer on the end of the axle, and remove the bolt holding the bull gear to the axle and you can pull the axle out. You kind of have to wobble the axle to get the gear to slide off. It helps to have another set of hands, or use shims to hold the bull gear up so it doesnt drop to the bottom of the transmission case.

The photo is a 560 axle but it works the same for an H.
