Is it a 300U or a 350U?

I have a 56 300 Utility and I just purchased another one. The second tractor is serial number 28584 SJ. However, this tractor has four things that make it seem like a 350. 1) It has a c-175 engine. 2) the clutch pedal is attached from the front, not the rear. 3) the fast hitch cylinder is mounted vertically, not beside the seat.4) The steering wheel is plastic. My question is: Does anyone else have a tractor with a 300 serial number and these 350 features?

350Us all have a rear pivot clutch pedal.
A front pivot clutch makes it (possibly) a European Import. If it has no TA, and the strange clutch, it could also be a special for industrial use, shuttle trans? JimN

Thanks for the info everyone. Since the 300U and the 350U were both made in 56, my tractor must have been built during the changeover with whatever parts were in stock.

There were no such change over tractors in this case. The rear half is basically the same castings. THus there are no 300U or 350U tractors with a front pivoted clutch pedal. I believe it is a European built tractor. Give us casting numbers, and we may reference it. JimN

Ok, here are the numbers on both of my tractors.
Serial # 22422 SJ : Trans 360553R3 1/20/B, Clutch Housing 360486R3 2/29/A, Engine C-169 1/4/B, Fast Hitch 364487R1
Serial # 28584 SJ : Trans 360553R3 4/9/B, Clutch Housing 360486R4 2/28/B, Engine C-175 361552R1 8/1/C, Fast Hitch 522762R1. Both tractors have IPTO, TA, and Front Pivot Clutch Pedals.

The engine would seem to make the 2nd tractor a 350. Both the 300U and 350U in the North America market had two clutch pedal options, forward and rear pivot. The "SJ" after the tractor serial number means Rockford clutch and IPTO/TA capable. You can check all this out in the parts catalog at www.caseih.com.

I have 3 of the 300U tractors. The lowest serial # is 3251. Front pivot clutch, second one is 5595. rear pivot clutch. And the 3rd is 18407. front pivot. All 3 the have T/A, IPTO, and "Fast Hitch". The 2 oldest have manual steering, the newest has power steering. These are all local Washington State tractors with known history going back over 40 years. # 3251 has a pan seat and horizontal hyd cyl.The newest has the same horizontal cyl and a cusion seat. The middle one has the vertical cyl. I don't know if that cyl/hitch is original or not.

56Utility, my money is on the engine being a replacement, since all the castings except the engine have B casting codes.

It is probably a "mutt" built from parts of a 300U and a 350U. You could call it your 325U :)
