Need help identifying an old single bottom trailer plow

Hello -

I picked up a single bottom trailer plow over the weekend and need some help identifying it. From my online research, it looks like a single bottom version of the McCormick Deering Little Genius or a No. 8 but I can"t find any reference to a single bottom being available for these. The casting number on the main plow beam is PO14603.

Any help in indentifying it and locating a manual for it would be appreciated.

thanks

It is a single bottom Little Genius. I have one just like it.
Like you, I have found very few references to a single bottom version of the Little Genius. What little I have came from a plow parts book that covers a dozen different plows.

Mine works great, I plow with it every spring. I took the cast iron bottom off and put on a Super Chief bottom on it.

Thanks for the reply. Could I ask what plow parts book you are referring to (I need to look up some references on parts/ etc..) Any chance that you have tried any the manauls for these plows (seem to be common in the two bottom series for the setup and use instructions?

thanks again
Mike

Mike, I'll have to look it up. Give me a couple days to find the one I'm thinking of.

If you don't hear from me, remind me on here.

P & O Repairs catalog # 82-PO shows part # PO14603 as beam used on "McCormick Deering No. 8 Little Genius 18" Tractor Sulky and gang plows"

No pictures of one furrow plow. walt

Matt, I have several plow books that list parts that fit a Little Genius #8. The big one is PO 4A which is dated 5/1/54. It has many plows illustrated, including #8's, but no pictures of a single bottom. All the parts numbers apply to my single bottom. That book also agrees with Walt(Ont) on the part number on the beam. All parts, no instructions.

I also have "Setting Up Instructions" for #8 Tractor Plows IH number 1 006 954 R1 dated 12/13/51. No parts, just instructions.

Also I have a reprint of "McCormick-Deering Little Genius Tractor Plow No 8 number 25M dated 6/19/29. It is probably the most useful of them all since it has both parts and instructions. I think it came from Binder Books.

All that, but no pictures of a single bottom #8 Little Genius. Sorry

I do have a couple pics of mine being used.
