424 oil poors out of oil fill.

Finally got my 424 running good, but now oil just poors out of the oil fill. Not just drip, it will blow out a gallon in under 60 seconds. Anyone have an idea why or whre it comes from? It does have a power steering hydraulic pump that is mounted to the engine block. Could it be a bad seal in the pump allowing hydraulic fluid to pump in the engine? If so anyone know where to get them rebuilt? Thanks for all the help, Joe

Are you pouing oil into the top tube that feeds into the valve cover?. If so, the drain holes are stopped up. Use a screw driver (small) to knock the crud out. It sounds the oi; is not making it to the oil pan.

DEo not run it that way! There is a seal in the hydraulic pump which can go out causing a massive "filling" of the oil pan. This is not engine oil, and must be repaired. The seal will be easy to get at, but could be either a lip type seal, or an O ring. If the shaft has a groove in it (any) it will need to be repaired with a "Speedy Sleeve" This is a thin sheet metal tube that is placed over the worn shaft. (NAPA and others have them) If it is a O ring style, the housing may need to be opened up a tiny bit to allow the sleeve to fit inside the location of the O ring. It is a machine shop type of repair if that is needed. If the bushings in the pump are worn and allow any play, the pump is probably toast. JimN

Hi JimN,

Any idea where I can get a seal kit for the pump? I ended up pulling it apart. All the bushings are a snug fit. The front seal is bad, I pulled it out and there are no part #'s on it. Trying to avoid paying 4-500. for a new pump. Thanks, Joe
