Super C fuel system

I just purchased a Super C and it runs great except when it needs to work then the engine stumbles. It seems to be fuel starved. Short of a clogged fuel screen does anybody have any suggestions?

jimjo: You've already named the best suggestion. These are famous for four different problems; stem from tank is plugged, someone has added an inline filter, screen going into carb is plugged and float-needle is not functioning properly.

Have you tried pulling the choke out a small amount when it starves? If it picks up when the choke is pulled, I'd suspect what Hugh has suggested or from past experience---float level is too low in the carb. These carbs are finicky about float level---if fuel delivery is good.

Since this is an unknown tractor, Hugh's suggestions would be a good place to start. If you work your way through those and it does not help, change the points and reset the timing.

That's the first thing I do when I think that there is a fuel problem.

And--worst case scenario--the fuel tank might need to be removed, cleaned and treated. That is, if you can't correct the condition and the problem continues.
