m- 450 pto swap

what all [if possible to do ] needs changed in a 53 m to accept the live pto from a 450??
can it be done?

Only one way, and it is to find a doner SMTA, 400 450 Use the entire rear section from the engine on back and adapt all systems and components to resemble an M It can and has been done, but it is certainly a hinze 57 when done. All the live components start at the clutch. JimN

No, the m and the 450 pto assemblies are not innerchangeable.

Can it be done? Yes if you have the money for flywheel change, rearend casting change, parts change- basicly get rearend from 450 and put on front of M. The old M&W hand clutch would give you the same PTO type of a AC WD45- transmission gear drive while stopping useing hand clutch to stop forward movement by letting left axle spin. The M & W was moderately popular on M's for 'sort of' live PTO. You might find old M&W assembly reasonable. Some machineing on left axle needed. RN
