Thanks Veterans

I post this every year but its worth it as far as I"m concerned.

It is the VETERAN, not the preacher,
who has given us freedom of religion.

It is the VETERAN, not the reporter,
who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the VETERAN, not the poet,
who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the VETERAN, not the campus organizer,
who has given us freedom to assemble.

It is the VETERAN, not the lawyer,
who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the VETERAN, not the politician,
who has given us the right to vote.

It is the VETERAN,
who salutes the Flag,

It is the VETERAN,
who serves under the Flag,

ETERNAL REST GRANT THEM O LORD,
AND LET PERPETUAL LIGHT SHINE UPON THEM

Even though I spent in excess of 43 years in the service, that was nothing compared to the sacrifice some gave for our freedom. I would like to thank their families for what these great men did so we could have all these freedoms.

I wore my shirt to the middle school where I teach today. It says All Gave Some, Some Gave All. It has 4 marines carrying a wounded soldier on a tarp. Lost my Uncle Mike last year. A P- 47 pilot. Won the DFC, other awards, 58 combat missions. Lost his hearing training in jets later. Never complained about it. Ended up teaching HS Physics for 20 years. Thanks to all vets. God Bless.

While I am deeply respectful of Veterans, your case is a little overstated. The fact of the matter is it was the LAWYERS who wrote the Constitution of the United States and gave you all of your civil rights. Let's get it straight. It is the Veterans who PROTECT and PRESERVE those rights.

I too served for a long time. I am just watching the (TV) last three surviving members from the First World War leading the whole nation in an Act of Remembrance.
I salute all those who served and who are now serving and dying in the worlds hot spots. So called limited war. For those who die it is not limited.
I also salute and remember those desperately sad people who have lost loved ones.
Yesterday I stood in silence at the Town War Memorial and remembered those who went with us but never came home and all in the time since WW2 AND I say thank you very much for what you have given for me and mine. MTF

Thanks for the information, I wasn"t aware it was "LAWYERS" (as you claim) who wrote the Constitution, if so we can thank them on "LAWYERS DAY" lol. Regardless who wrote the Constitution, I still mean, choose and wish to thank the Veterans on Veterans Day, because if it wasnt for them who fought and died for our freedom, none of us would have any of those rights available.

God Bless and thanks to yourself and all the Veterans on this Veterans day 2008

Yes John T., I agree. However, were you not aware that John Hancock, John Adams, etc. were all attorneys? I am very surprised that you as an american citizen wouldn't know that.

Great historical information, thanks for posting. Nope, I didnt take the time to look up all the Constitutions authors or their backgrounds such as farmers or merchants or lawyers (of which I myself happen to be one, JD Indiana University) or whatever, but I still intended to and wanna thank and give honor to Veterans on Veterans Day and still agree with the premise of the article (regardless who wrote the Constitution) that its the Veterans who fought and died for our freedom and without their sacrifice we wouldnt have any of the rights enumerated.

Great fun discussion and history lesson going here, God Bless yall and the Veterans and the good ol US of A
