706 injector pump

Been a while since I asked y"all about my 706 but I finally had time to mess with it. I think I narrowed it down to something internally blocking return fuel to the tank which I discovered accidentally by losing a screw that holds the timing inspection cover on the pump. There is no check valve and tractor will run normal as long as inspection cover is loose allowing diesel to run out. When I bought a screw and tightened the cover engine dies just like shutting the throttle off. Any one know of easy fix like make a cover with a fitting to return fuel to tank? I figure ring is disentigrating and since there is no check valve the area under the top cover is clean. Thanks John K

It can't run without a fuel bypass/return.

Sounds like someone has done a two-bit repair by removing the vent and now the debris has probably plugged the line somewhere on downstream.
