Farmall 100 Throttle Adj and slow starting

I checked out my Uncle"s 100 this weekend, I am generally a Ford guy and am not very familiar with farmalls.

The throttle goes from slow idle in the second notch in the plate to high rpms when put in the third notch. After that there is not much difference in engine speeds in subsequent notches. Is this just a linkage problem or an internal governor problem?

Also, when starting, it seems that the starter only has enough power to turn the engine over once or twice and then stops. We tried a charger/starter on the battery (I am pretty confident the battery is good) and I cleaned the connections, but it would still not crank more than once or twice.

Any help? Thanks.

The throttle linkage needs to pull the governor arm to full stroke when it is to its max position. Adjust the linkage to do this.
The cables need to be O gauge to conduct enough amps. If the starter is draging internally it will act like this. Pull it apart and see if there are score marks from the armature rubbing on the field. JimN

Amatt: Jim may be correct, however my experience with these little tractors, problem is usually internal governor. Either the thrust bearing or spring inside the governor are faulty. I have never seen one of these go out of adjustment unless it was done by fingers, or internal wear.
