I have a IH model A after running for about an hour quits, restarts but will only idle in low idle cannot increase speed until tractor is turned off for about an hour or so. Replaced the points,condenser,and coil, still does same thing. could the problem be in the mag timing? maybe one cog off any suggestions would be helpful. thanks Larry

Have you checked to see if there is a good vent hole open in the gas cap? Often the fuel just can't get replacement air.
Have you checked the spark when it stops to be sure it is the spark?
Pull a plug wire and hold it with insulated pliers about 1/4" away from the block.
If it has a nice blue spark, it is probably a fuel issue.
Engines run on the max spark volts when at Idle.
I think it is fuel related. JimN

Does the mag have a strong blue spark? Is there a good clean flow of fuel to the carb?
Sounds like a fuel problem to me. Try draining the carb and cleaning the sediment bowl. If it has been setting up for a while, the fuel line may be clogged. Be sure fuel runs freely with the fuel line disconnected. If the fuel line has been replaced with a non standard line make sure there are not sag points. These gravity flow carbs do not like dirty fuel.

A few year ago when I got my farmall a I had a similar problem. For me it ended up being a bad bowl gasket/clogged air passage for equalizing internal bowl pressure. It would start and run great for about 3 minutes then flood itself, I"d get fuel in the air intake and if left long enough would have it run out the rubber hose between the carb, and air filter canister. You might check there for fuel to see if you are getting a similar problem.
Another time cleaning it out and a new gasket and I haven"t had problems with it for about 2 years.

Are you sure the vent in the gas cap is working. Try running with the cap loose as the flow is gravity from the tank and ive seen that happenthat the vent on the cap does not run.
