Got the Cab off the 856

Took the cab off and cleaned her up some before winter hits. Got the tilt steering re-bushed so it's tight now. All in all a nice machine. Can't wait to get those 15.5's off and mount some 16.9's

I agree with the vet I have a 560 diesel I restored last winter and put 18.4x38"s on it and it does excellent. You have plenty of power for those tires

18.4x38s on a 560?

We had 16.9s on ours and it was the fastest tractor on the farm. It was great for raking hay, rolling meadows, hauling wagons... 10+MPH in 4th, you could really cover some acreage. I can't imagine how fast it would be with 18.4s.

I have two 856s one has 16.9s and one has 18.4s can"t really see a lot of difference in traction. I"ve pulled large silage wagons up the hill to the trench silo with both couldn"t tell a lot of difference. If yours has 15.5"s it should have 14 inch rims you can put 16.9s on those 18.4s you should have 16 inch rims. The cheapest way to buy those that I have seen is to buy a cheap set of clamp on duals with the right kind of rims and knock the bands off. Lee

Ya I had to buy new wheels and I already had the tires and I also dont use the tractor everyday so I thought that would be as good as new tires without the cost. And I have to admit I thought I would regret it due to power loss but I was impressed I pulled a 19ft disk this summer on pasture that I tore up and it pulled it excellent about 7 mph and 4in deep with no fluid or extra weight. Dont get me wrong the engine is'nt completely at factory settings but very usable still.
