W6 Serial Number ?'s...

Well, my W6 has been home for a few days now. I began a teardown of the engine & took a look at the serial # tag. It says WBKM 25255. What"s the "M" mean? Also, the date code says 5-31-S which puts the casting date on the last day of May of "49. From my understanding, the engine number makes it a "48 for a W6 or a "41 if it came from an M. Did the W6 engines receive their own serial #"s or were they run consecutive with the M"s.? Thanks - Mike

Hi Mike,
I took a look at me W-6 serial tag and block as well and I too have the WBKM stamped on the side of the block, my tag does not have the M stamping. I would assume that it might just simply stand for Motor. Yes the W-6 motors had their own serial number.
What are yout plans with your W-6?
Charles

Engine # 25255 was installed in a 49 model W6 and the tractor serial number would be in the range of a little under 31000 to a little under 32000.

Hi Charles, I have a complete engine-out overhaul to tend to & quite a few other things to iron out on the W6. Once I get it running, I'll break it in on the disk & use it for threshing next year. I'd like to find an Oliver 100 Plowmaster 3 bottom plow. I think if I could find one with 3-16's, I'd be happy. I have a 2-14" bottom Plowmaster that I pull with my H. Those two are a perfect match.
