Whats the best way to tighten up my front end on my M?The tires wobble too much in road gear.Does shimming up the 180 gear work?

Is the wobble in the front hubs? Jack up the front end and see if the front hubs are loose on the spindles and if they are, tighten the nut that holds them on. Also make sure that the rims are tightened securely onto the hubs.

Most likely the bushings in the bolster are totally worn out. Only cure is take it all apart and replace those bushings and you might even need to have a machine shop do some work on the shaft.

This is a very talked about subject. This is a very common problem with these tractors.

There is a shim that people put in these , they pump the bolster full of greese etc etc..

It all boils down to worn parts, top gear -worm gear, universal joint in steering shaft.

There isn"t a easy cheap way to cure this.

I would just do a search on the topic and see which fix best fits your tractor.

Just make sure the bearings are set correct and that the tires are good and the rims not bent and live with it.

Sure wish i had the end all answer !!

There are bushings and bearnings in the bolster that are proberly worn out. It's not a easy fix but if they are replaced it makes a world of difference. I had the same problem and replaced the worn bushings, bearings and the seal that holds gear oil in the top. No more wobble and it stears a lot easier.

I was able o take the wobble out of my SMTA by tightening the top nut down REALLY tight!
