I"ve seen literature advertiseing the 560 as having a utility model--but can"t find a photo of one anywhere!! Anyone out there have or seen one, or have a decent photo--is it similiar in profile to the 460 utility or significantly different looking? Thanks for any info. BigART

Any chance you have a photo or copy of the literature. Ive never seen or heard from anyone about them making a 560 utility. They did however build a 560 Standard or "wheatland". Which is basically a newer updated and bigger six-cylinder version of the W-6. The 560 Standard is very different from the 460 Utility profile as it is not a really a low profile tractor. Also that the steering is just a long single drag link along the left side. And it has a sraight front axle that is set back behind the bolster. In addition is has shorter wider rear wheels, that is compared to its rowcrop counterpart. And it was not available from the factory with a 3pt or 2pt hitch, only various versions of a drawbar.

JJ is correct, there is no such tractor. Names sometimes get applied to the wrong thing. When SUV's first appeared in the 90's, people calling GM Suburbans SUV's, when they are really trucks, or at least used to be.

The literature I saw for sale listed the International 140 thru 560 Utility models, 1958 line, but the front cover had a 460 utility on it, and usually the largest Model would be displayed. It is a 16 page reprint for sale at www.external_link, the part no. is cr-1374-H, listed under 560 manuals and literature. Many thanks for the rare 560 wheatland photos, a friend pulls a 460(301) and 560 (370 cu in 414)alcohol llss tractors, and the 560 has proven much more reliable, when in the 1000 hp range, even with a 1" steel top plate to try and stabilize the 460 rear housing from "twisting". After seeing a w-9 with a v6 detroit, I wonder how a 560 wheatland would look with a 1468's dv-550 installed!!! Thanks again! BigART

Ya thats just a typo or really more along the line of inaccurate wording, they are actually refering to the 560 Standard. Cause like CNKS reinstated they didnt make a 560U only the standard and the rowcrop.

GREAT DETAIL IN YOUR ALBUM---must have been hundreds of hours of work---I bought 2 460 diff cases and 2 560 cases last year, had trouble finding one without one of the three bolt holes in the bottom for the front drawbar attachment being pulled out a few threads deep, must have seen 5 or 6 that way---figured someone didn't thread a carrier mount deep enough at the foundry or the block was too green to be moved when they did---have you run across that experience also???? Many thanks again, bigart

J.J. from Afton, that 560W is a beast! Are you going to restore or pull with it? I do not see a TA handle, so it must be a 5 speed. Keep us posted with the project. I saw a JD 5020 Wheatland, WOW! But the red iron is my favorite.

Actually all the tapped holes and threads were at or near perfect on my transmission case. And I only had one bolt break off, it was one of the cover bolts. Just welded a nut on the end of it, heated the area around it and turned it out. I did have to find a better drawbar bracket though cause the one was so badly worn oblong.

In reply to Charles it has a T/A the lever is somewhat hard to spot in the pics though. It also has a couple rare options including original shutters and linkage, and I also have a power steering setup for it, but I need to rebuild the cylinder/valve assembly first. It will evetually be restored once I come up with the time.

Is there an easy power steering system to adapt to an "Armstrong" steering 560? I've got a Charlynn pump, but would require removing the steering box. Thanks.

All 560s came with factory power steering. There's something wrong with yours. They're not the greatest, but better than nothing.

Assuming yours is a rowcrop (Farmall) 560 it should have power steering as factory equipment. In this case it would be on of few that didnt have pwer steering for some reason. Or it could be that it is worn out or not getting any oil.

If it is a 560 Standard on the other hand the original style power steering requires a different draglink/cylinder assembly for the steering, in addition to a piggy-back pump to supply oil to the steering cylinder.

So the question is is your 560 a row crop or standard.

Yeah, mines a standard. I was hoping there was an easily adaptable system like on a Case730 or something using a priority valve or what have you. I do have a steering pump, but that would require removing most of the steering components. I use my 560 for baling and really need the power steering. thanks. Brad.

Well the easiest way of course is to get the original IH setup for it. This involves changing the draglink to the one with the cylinder also there is a mounting bracket for the end of the hydraulic ram. Than you also need two steel lines, one provides oil from the pump, the other returns the oil to the remote valve assembly using a special fitting. And than there are two hoses to connect the lines to the valve potion of the cylinder. And the other piece you need is the biggyback pump that mounts on the main hyd pump in the transmission. Thus providing the steering sector with oil in priority over the valves.

#19 is the main hydraulic pump and #25 is the piggyback pump that is added to it. Also the bracket you would need is #12, 35 only apllies to the 660

I think I'm gonna have to check the wreckers. factory might the be an option if I can find one. otherwise it's the "By Gum and By Gosh, Thissle fitter".

Its got a T/A the lever is hard to see, but its there. Its an all new one too, and I mean all- the T/A assembly, flywheel, pressure plate, disc, even the drive/input shaft is new. Old girl was just that tired when I got it.
