Super H shifter lever

Hey guys, I"ve read all of the earlier posts about removing a worn out shifter on the H"s, building up the end and then grinding it back into shape. So, I"ve removed the shift lever, and it is definitely a bit worn. Question is, when I take it into work to have one of the guys weld it, they all tell me it is very difficult to weld a cast piece.

Could you guys who have done this tell me how or with what you built up the end? I"m not really a welder, but I know there is a rod that you can use on cast metal. Are there any special tricks? What about brazing it?

Thanks in advance for the help!
