F-14 restoration finished picture fuel pump question

Just finished my F14, picture enclosed I hope! I only have one leak and it is the fuel pump. There is a knob that you can turn on the bottom of the pump at an angle and I am leaking some fuel there. I screwed it all the way out but I still don't know what it does. It has 3 little holes coming out of the tip of the knob. My F12 has a little drain tube coming out of the some place. Is this a pressure relief valve maybe. When I bought the tractor the fuel line went right to the carburator but did not bleed back into the old fuel line coming from the gas tank like my F12. Could this be the problem? HELP!!

Looks like mine did years ago. You should have a tee that goes back into the main tank, not straight to the carb. If you have fuel coming out of the drain thing there on the pump, them you have fuel on the wrong side of the pump, and most likely its draining into the engine as well. Got a pic of whats there, instead of the proper pipe. Could be that the pump bilut up alot of pressure, for that pump, and popped the diaphram.

That "knob thingy" is a vent for the fuel pump. It allows air into and out of the space under the diaphragm because of the pulsations of the diaphragm. It also helps to ventilate the crankcase. If you have fuel coming out there you probably have a bad diaphragm. You could have two possible setups for the fuel. One is a tee from the output of the fuel pump; one side to the carb the other to the tank. Since you have a starting tank that is probably the most appropriate. The other setup is if you have a vent chamber that sticks up from the hood right in front of the gas tank. This also has a tee but the one line for this tee comes from the fuel pump and the other goes to the carb. The third connection is to the vent chamber. There is another fitting on the bottom of the vent chamber which has a larger line that goes back to a tee in the suction line for the fuel pump. No direct connection to the fuel tank. If you need further info my Email is open.

From what I can see in the pats book, the 14 only had the tee to the tank set up. Also shows a vent for the fuel pump up to 129XXX, and a vent pipe from 29xxx and up, (Guess that could be a misprint)HE should have the vent pipe.
