We have a 2544 Hydro. There is no reverse when using the clutch. But if we move the shift lever into reverse without the clutch it moves. What should we check? Thanks

Since you used the word "clutch", assume this is a hand controlled model? Or, does it have the two direction pedals?

When it does move, is it a good solid reverse?

The clutch is really a Foot-N-Inch valve. It operates by allowing the high pressure relief valves to open.

Your problem sounds like the snap ring may have come off the shuttle valve in the center section of the hydro. If the shuttle valve does not move to the reverse position you will not fill that section of the hydro system. The use of the Foot-N-Inch valve will have allowed the oil to be dumped from that circuit. A sticking reverse high pressure relief valve can also act like this. If it is the shuttle valve, the tractor will usually free wheel a bit when pulling the speed control lever back toward neutral.
