I posted a message a few days ago asking how to get the points out of my 300 U distributor. I finally did it and the new points got me running again.

I now see that my distributor is apparently not the original. I'm wondering if anyone can help me identify what distributor it is (I see no number).

Mine has a points set that are two separate pieces, like the original. But the condenser is mounted on the outside of the distributor. The pin that connects the points spring to the outside wires has no head or nut on the inside -- just a thin round head with a slot in it that mates with a tab on the inside insulator. On the outside there was just one nut holding the wires but a second round "nut" that is actually turned into and surrounded by the outside insulator. This "nut" has two slots cut into its face so it can be turned from the outside.

Is this set up clearly identifiable to anyone? In the alternative, should I be able to see a distributor number while the unit is still mounted on the tractor? (I hate to remove it now that I finally got it running again!)

Thanks again for your help. Bob

Other than the outside condenser mounting, you are describing a Delco distributor.
