i have a 684 IH , some grease fittings are missing, tried to screw in new but guess they dont have threads? never seen this , but anyway whats the fix? thanks for any help, again!

I have had these fail on me. On a new loader, I had one that wouldn't take grease. I added more pressure, and the zerk popped out.

As Kevin points out they are available. I tend to re-thread problem fittings to a standard size, being careful to prevent chips from getting into the bearing. There are many sizes of threads, from 1/8" pipe, on down to M6X1. JimN

That's a big improvement, but how do you keep the chips out of the hole, particularly if you also have to drill it to the appropriate root diameter before you thread it. I suppose you could pack some cotton down in there first. I've also got some pressed in fittings I'd like to get out to do just that. Any tricks on getting them out?

The obvious is to disassemble. (I know)
Some are easy because they lead into a cavity, and can have a piece of non directional fiber cloth (tyvek, or dryer softener cloth, or baby wipes) used to "pack" the hole.
TIght ones can be done pretty well with a spray of brake Kleen or= to get out the residuals. JimN

Pack the flutes of the drill bit with gun grease before drilling. You may need to clean off the grease and reapply it a couple of times but the grease will catch the chips as they are formed.
