I've heard on here that the 826 was built to compete with the JD 4000. What was the 1026 built for? It is the same size hp wise as a 1256 and a 1066. I know it is newer than a 1256 but older than a 1066, so did it just replace the 1256? They do have the same engine though.

The 1026 was built in the same time fram (1970-1971) as the 1456. Production of the 1256 ended in 1969. The 826 was available in either hydro or gear drive as was the 1066. The 1026 kind of looks to be a 1066 hydro with 12 or 1456 engine and sheet metal. I don't really know if it was built to directly compete with anything like the 826. Interesting tractor that is becoming quite collectible.
