Forum members: Cannot buy GL 1 or 2 in our little town. Would I dare use GL 4? This is for the transmission and differential of a Farmall C. Thanks.

No issue at all, GL4 is fine. Use of 80-90 multi wt is great, JimN

Use 80-90 Gear lube.

GL-4 should work fine - just make shure it is EP "extreme pressure" and rated for hypoid gear use - not all gear lube is ok for hypoid gears - which just refers to the way most ring and pinion gears are cut.
In other words if it is ok for rear axle use in your truck it will be ok for your C.

I agree with the designation(and need for EP), the ring.pinion are either spiral bevel, or straight bevel, in almost all tractors. JimN
