W4 withDistillate Engine

The W4 had some variations on Engines, namely Gasoline,Kerosene and Distillate with the main variation being variations in the valves.
As the engine is not a Deisel engine I presume that a distillate engine was fuelled by a mixture of Petrol and Distillate. Can someone confirm this and if so what is the ratio of Petrol to diesel in the mix and how well does the tractor run on this mixture

Started on petrol then run on distillate. In UK it was run on Tractor Vaporising Oil (TVO)basically a Kerosene derivant. TVO is no longer available so people are generally mixing their own. I use approx 4 1/2 gallons of Kerosene or Household heating oil to 1/2 gallon of petrol plus a small can of two stroke oil. The guys I've heard of that use a deisel mix go for about 4 to 1. Hope that helps MTF

Run it on Gasoline, it will work fine. I don't believe Distillate is made anymore. Just use Gasoline, that is what all the all fuel tractors are using now.

the intake manifold was diff. also. it was made to heat up the distillate to help vapourize it . you supposedly got more work out distillate than just running them on gas.you had to get the engine hot before switching to distillate.
