TD9 gas/diesel lever is stuck

I went to pull the lever out in my TD9 to the gas position and it will not pull out. I pull it hard and it moves about 1/2 but the lever just moves back when I let go. The linkages on both sides of the engine move a bit when I pull it out that tiny bit so nothing on the outside of the engine seems to be prohibiting the lever from being pulled out all the way. Any suggestions? This dozer sure runs great and this is the first problem that I have had with it.

Thanks for you help!

When you say the lever moves out 1/2, is that 1/2 inch or 1/2 the normal travel? If it's the former, it could be the detent on the left side that's the culprit. If it's the later, check on the manifold to see if the shaft on which the flipper is attached, is free. It could be siezed in the manifold. Also check to see if a tiny rock or some object is caught up in the mechanism.

Yes, Grabatire it is 1/2 inch. I appreciate the replies that Ihave gotten already. Two in about 10 minutes! Bear with me here...

I do not knnow what detent you are talking about that is on the left side. Is this detent somewhere in the linkage arm itself or in the rod that I pull??

No rocks to see in the linkage.

Thanks again!

Thanks "The Tractor Vet"!!! I will accept all advice that I can get on this forum here.

I will look under the valve cover to see what is up.

Had the same thing happen on my 52MD after I had detailed the engine and painted it. Turned out that there is a slight "bump", or detent, that holds the linkage, it looks like a half moon showing, and the detent rubs against the half moon. Believe me, paint will freeze it up!
