I am normally a green tractor peson, however I guy I work with is cleaning out his dads sheds and knows I like old tractors and implements has what I believe to be a Super MTA. I located the serial number plate but there was nothing on the tag except a number 66712S. Usually I thought the tag said farmall on it or the model of the tractor. In my limited Farmall research library if this is the serial number that would make this a 1954 model. There are no decals on the tractor but there is a lever on the left side of the tractor by the clutch pedal which makes me think this is at least a T/A tractor. It has part of aloader frame on it but no bucket. It has 2 sets of rear wheel weights and the sheet metal is average. It needs 2 front tires and I am not sure about the rear. It has the mud scrapers for the front tires. The tread is 80 percent matched but the tractor has been sitting since 1990, and the tires are up but it is sunk into the dirt, so I am not sure what I am getting into there. It was supposedly overhauled just before it was parked bucause his dad just got it back from the shop before he had his heart attack and it only bush hogged about 4 hours before it was parked. The radiator has been drained and the oil pan has no water in it but it smells like gas. They offered to give me the tractor just to get it out of the way, but I do not want to do that because this tractor has a value, and I value the friendship with my co-worker. Like I said I am a jd person and my thoughts were to make a reasonable offer on the tractor and then sell it or trade it for something green. They supposedly have the book for it in the house but are still going thru his dads papers. I am sorry about the long post but I had hoped som of you IH/Farmall guys goud give me some help here. The tractor is located in south central IL

Thanks

Trent

They were only made the one year and prices on them are insane. Maybe a more knowledgeable IH person can give you more specifics.

Right now, without documents it's a barn find, not running. 3000 dollars.
If you get it home, engine is loose, check all fluids, drain out old fuel, and get it running well, and it has 110 compression on all four then you have a 3500 dollar tractor. If the rear tires pan out add another 500. Fenders, add 300. Working lights add 50. T/A works add 250.
Fully rebuilt restored 1954 SMTA is close to 8500.
I'm putting one in auction on 15 November. We'll see if it meets my reserve?

It is a SMTA. As described about 2000.00 If running and W/good TA it is in the 4000+ range. If however you do get it operational, you might just keep it!!! They are a fine modern powerful undervalued tractor. JimN

The Super MTA was only built in 1954. My Dad has a Super MTA and it is a excellent tractor. I love the Super MTA's. They sound great and have a lot of power. My Dad's SMTA has a wide front. I've seen restored Super MTA's bring $4000-$12000. I think $2000-$3000 sounds alright for that one, it may be worth more, but I think they would be happy with $2000 if they wanted to give it to you for free. How is the sheet metal? Please post pictures of that SMTA.

Thanks for all of the info. This gives me place to start. It is worth a little more than I thought. If I can get back down there I will take some pics and post.

2500 would be fair price for everyone. You really should be careful though. Before you know it you might be having an auction to liquidate your JD collection so you can go red. They really are nice tractors. Like Andy said you gotten love those smoooooooth running IH 4 cylinder gassers and the extra length and weight of an MTA makes em ride like Cadillacs. (For an old tractor)
