I have a 1966 Model 806 diesel that will not start. We replaced the fuel line between the primary and secondary fuel filters and the line that connects the secondary filter to the diesel injector pump. Prior to that, the tractor started and ran good. Since replacing these lines, the tractor will not start. Fuel is getting to the pump but nothing seems to be coming out of the pump. We had the pump rebuilt. The company that rebuilt the pump said nothing was really wrong with it, but it had a lot of residue inside that needed to be cleaned out. We put the pump back on the tractor but it still will not start. It still seems that fuel is not being pumped through. When we took the pump back to the company that rebuilt it, they put it on a test stand and showed that it did work. We have cleaned the fuel tank, cleaned the steel fuel lines, cleaned the return lines, and added fresh fuel. We tried adding air pressure to the fuel tank. Nothing seems to help. The engine will only run while ether is being sprayed into the air intake. The person who rebuilt the pump said there must be air in the system. We have all six lines loose at the injectors to bleed air. He said to keep spraying ether to keep the engine running long enough to purge the air but we are concerned that too much ether may cause other damage. Does anyone have a suggetion about something else that could be the problem? A month ago, this tractor ran great. Now it won't run at all.

Ok here , first off ya dead sure that ya got the pump back in time????? Ya say ya have fuel to the pump , ok next go up to the injectors and loosen all the lines and make sure that they are indeed loose , now crank the engine over with the throttle wide open and see if now ya have fuel to the injectors . If yes then tighten all the lines and see if it will start . If yes then your good to go , if no then ya had best start from square one and this time pull the valve cover and make sure that both rockers are loose on # 1 and that the timing pointer under the little cover on the right side of the bell housing is at 8 degrees for the roosamaster and 50 degrees for the R D pump . yours should be the Rossa Master . ANd remove the timing window and make sure that the little lines are all lined up .

I'm almost positive the pump is in time. We lined up everything like it is supposed to be. No fuel is getting to the injectors. All lines are loose at the injectors but no fuel squirts out when cranking. The throttle is wide open. When the lines are lined up under the pump site window, the timing pointer is at 8 degrees on the bell housing. It is a Rossa Master pump. We loosened the fitting for one of the steel fuel lines at the pump and no fuel comes out there either when cranking. For some reason, fuel does not seem to be exiting the pump.

Well if it works on the pump stand then it will work on the tractor . Unless ya have a blockage from the filter to the pump or a air leak . Now like i said make sure that the lines are loose at the injectors as just because the line nut is loose does not always mean that the line unseated from the injector. Oh and make sure that there are not two lines scribed on the pump as this happened to me once as some one had hand scribed a second line and that was the one that was lined up when i got the pump , talken about being ticked off at 2 am out in a field trying to get a guy going for morning you could have heard me cussen three countys away.

I have a 450 diesel that I had the same problem. I ran it low on fuel. I changed the fuel filters, cleaned the fuel screen in the pump, cleaned the water trap, drained the fuel tank, and cleaned it. Primed it just as the book said, had fuel to the pump, but not to the injectors. To shorten up the story, the roller pin in the shaft that holds the throttle lever had sheared off. When I went to start it switch to diesel from gas no go. Replaced the pin, cracked the injectors and started right up.

have you bled the air out of the filters? no amount of bleeding on the pump and injector ends will remove the air in the filters.

throttle linkage actually hooked up--make sure lever at steering wheel moves lever at pump. or throttle linkage on the pump backwards--try a half throttle start. also the throttle arm on the pump is in 2 pieces, but i do not remember how or why--make sure both pieces are moving together; they are connected by a spring.
