IH 474 - good tractor?

The quest for a "new" tractor continues. I see an IH 474 for sale locally. I haven't yet looked at it. Is anyone familiar with this tractor? Any "typical" problems? I'm looking for a tractor to run a brush hog, plow snow, and make hay.

Thanks. Jason

Look at external_link The tractor was made in England. 1972 -1974. On paper it sounds like a good tractor. 60hp diesel

I don't know what tractordata says, but I have a 484 diesel and it is 42 hp.

Look to see the engine; mine is Perkins D179, 3 cylinder.

These are basically a 574 fitted with the D206 4cyl diesel, instead of a D239. IIRC they were 48 PTO HP, intended to fit between the 454 and 574.

For what it is worth, the 584 @ 52 PTO has the same engine and is basically a newer version of the 474.

The 484 did not replace the 474 contrary to what should make sense.

A 484 did not use a Perkins Engine....the D179 is a 3cyl IH german engine.
The D206 and D239 are the same engine family as the D179.

Here is one:
