switching hydralics on M

Hi We have a super M we are junking out. Could we take the live hydralic pump off it and put it on a late 40"s M? I am worried about the timing. thanks. Dave K

Dave: I got a live hydraulic pump on E-bay, supposedly from an M. When I tried to mount it the bolt pattern did not match my M. Only three bolts would work. Suspect it was from a Super M.

Not on a tractor that old. Has to be a later M. Breakpoint was in 1950 or '51.

dr bert, the very late m"s had a different timing cover and the stronger cam gear to accept the live pump. years ago i bought a live pump kit at an auction to add a live pump to an m. had a plate to remove the belly pump and use that as the fluid resevoir. in the mounting instructions, the top outer pump bolt hole was different on the older m. they had you run a bolt in the hole, cut it off flush with the timing cover, file it flat, then redrill a new hole to mount the pump. i have that on my 48 m. did have to change the timing gear a couple years later, tractor has a loader on it, and it was too much strain for the old cam gear. used a super m cam gear. if you still have the old pump, you would be better off to remove the timing cover, put a new cam gear in, and do the drilling and tapping on the workbench,
