300u snap ring for flow control valve

The snap ring that holds the flow control valve retainer broke some time ago on my 300u. Since, I have not been able to find one that fits tight. I have tried numerous places, including ordering 5 from my IH dealer. I even tried using a double ring. They are all in orbit, including others and I have had numerous showers of hydraulic oil (as recently as yesterday).
The original one that broke had a tab going out on the back side, away from the opening, that went into the grove. I have not been able to find any like that. Does anyone know where I might look to find that type? Thanks for any suggestions.

If the groove is worn in the casting, there is no way it will stay in place. I will suggest a single possible effort, then tell you to have the groove remachined to hold a thicker ring.
Put in a new good ring. then with care, make a ring shaped piece to fit inside the new snap ring that will go around what ever is in the middle, and will keep the new snap ring from compressing out of its groove. Kinda like putting a chair against a door knob. When fit in place well, put red locktite on it ald leave it for a day. JimN

Jims advice is right on.

You probably have the part number seeing as you have been to at least one IH dealer. If not I have it out in the shop, its raining hard at the moment.

We had a company just north of Kalamazoo that did nothing but rebuild hydraulic pumps and acc. specializing in aluminum rebuilds. Unfortunetly Dad retired and son did not continue. Maybe there is a hydraulic specialist near you.
