farmall 460 diesel general info

looking at a 460 diesel with a wide front, no 3 pt. looks like a fair tractor for age. straight metal and fair tires, can buy it for about $1250. 4 questions. what is the wide front end worth by itself? can you add an aftermarket 3 pt? what would this tractor be worth with a 3 pt on it? any quirks to the 460? any info appreciated. Mark
 
I have seen wide fronts on e-bay go for over $600.00. cant tell you about adding a 3 pt, but expect it would be cheaper to buy another tractor and swap parts. Some times they are worth more in pieces than together. dont ask how I know.

Can't remember how they go on, but for a few hundred you can get an adaptor kit, which mimics a 3pt through the 2pt; think among other places YT has them for sale.

Quite a workhorse IMHO, but one quirck: the diesel is cold blooded; not horrible if you're aware of that fact. If it's in the condition you're noting, I'd say it's quite a bargain!
 
I have a 460D I have had for over 30 years. If you shut it off to get a drink of water don"t drink too long or you will have to use the glow plugs to start it again. They have the reputation of being hard to start. Good glow plugs, battery, starter, pump and Injectors and they will start easily in most weather, when very cold a block heater is a plus on any deisel. Do not expect it to start on all cylinders at once, usually 4 then pick up the other 2. Will have to hold the glow plugs in colder weather a few more seconds after it starts. My on a 7 ft Roam offset plow will use 2 1/4 gal an hr. 258 and 260 New Holland rakes in 4th gear at about 900 RPMs 1/2 a gal per Hr
