Touch controll

I am so happy with my newly rebuilt C, the attached plow works great. I am want to know more about the touch controll. How much weight will it lift? Are the hydrolics strong enough for a remote hook up? If you have any experience with it I would love to hear from you.

The remote worked off the same unit and reservoir. If you follow the piping back from your pump to the right side of the reservoir, you'll see where it joins up to the side of the TC unit. That's where the valve for the remote was tapped in, and was operatied from a lever up (I think) on the light bar. The hoses ran back and through a gap in the bottom the toolbox under the seat to the rear of the tractor.

You can sometimes find the original setup as salvage, but they're scarce. I wasn't able to find one quickly, but if you search the archives here, you'll find threads where someone describes how to adapt new fittings into your system to give you a remote. Maybe somebody else can find it bettr than I could, or will chime in and describe the adaptation in full. I have in the back of my find fitting one up to my SuperC, but there's a lot of other projects ahead of that.

As for how much weight it will lift, that really depends on how it's mounted and leveraged. THe equipment specifically made for it would have been designed to make maximum use of leverage. It does have a surprising amount of gumption. Just lifting a 6' bar on a rear-mounted sickle bar is pretty impressive. I have an aftermarket three-point on mine that raises and lowers using chains run back from the crank arms on the TC unit, and it easily handles a $500+ pound back blade (though I did have to make arrangement for more weight on the front end of the tractor to balance that blade).

Glad you're enjoying your tractor.

Scotty, I would love to see a pic of your 3 point. That is exactly what i was thinking of doing. I am in no hurry but if you can email me a pic. Thanks,

c_man, I have a SC with a fast hitch. I can lift the rear wheels off the ground with my FH. I don't know what my blade with the extra weights will weigh but it handles it very well. Ron

Hey c-man! Sorry I do not have any info for you about the hydraulics but would like to know what type or size plow you are enjoying on the 'C' Thanks.

The farmall c came out with 2 12" plows. grandpa took one off so all i have is one 12"plow.

Yea you can run extra line. It actually was an option like the guys above said it was a valve that was right on the side of the two pipes coming back from the pump. I think you can see it on the couple pictures of our SC on my webpage.. I haven't updated it yet with the teardown pictures. I wiil this week I hope and it will have a better shot of the touch control unit.. Good luck.

I believe I read somewhere in a book that there was a harrow for the C that they made and the Super C's with fast hitchs has a metal rod to be put inplace of the hydraulic cylinder, then you removed the cylinder and used hose extensens with quick couplers and put the cylinder on the harrow...pretty cool I thought.

My tractor will lift anything I put on the back of it but the nose just goes in the air...very outstanding hydraulics for its era...why couldnt you just make new hoses and put quick connects by the back of the seat(provided your cylinder didnt settle, or you could just make a ridged mount for it)...the only thing I would be conserned about would be running out of hydraulic oil if you were using a larger cylinder...Im sure if you were careful you'd be ok...

In my owners manual it shows a roller harrow i think. You take the Hydraulic cylinder off and replace it with a spacer that keeps the draw bar in place. Then you put the cylinder on the harrow to opperate it.
if your cylinder settles you need to make sure the plunger is pushed down. Once the plunger on top is pushed it is "locked" into place. If it still settles then the cylinder needs rebuilt.

I bought a Saginaw 3 point hitch for my Super C and it had a bypass block that allowed you to connect a valve and remote hydraulics. I was very happy with the 3 point hitch but wasn't happy with the location of the valve (on the light bar) as it was awkward to be looking back and reaching forward to adjust at the same time. I replaced the single spool valve on the light bar with a dual spool valve that I bolted to the side of the tool box. This couldn't be a more ideal setup... the levers are very easy to reach as they are just under your right cheek (if you know what I mean). I then replaced the top link with a hydraulic cylinder and am very happy with the setup.

I have subsequently bought another bypass block on e-bay for my Super C. You can routinely find these blocks on ebay for about $50 (see link below).

As for how much they will lift... I think new the hydraulic pump would put out about 1200psi or so and with the Saginaw 3 point it will easily lift the front off the ground if the load is too heavy or lift the back off the ground if you push down on something.

I have been meaning to post a picture here of how I mounted the hydraulic valve but don't have one handy. Will try to get one sometime.
