Becoming a parts dealer

I've been tossing around the idea of starting to sell some Oem and Performance parts or tractors and other engines. What do I have to go through to become classified as a dealer and to receive Dealer pricing. I heard something about I need a tax number or something but I'm young and don't understand much about these types of things. So i thought I could use some advice from a few people who know more than me. Not looking at becoming a millionaire but just looking to make a few bucks on the side selling parts and maybe a little engine work and maybe someday i can make something of it. I'm in PA if that makes a difference.....Thanks guys

Im not in the tractor parts business but another one and live in PA ...
You can get a tax number and file as a business...I used my own name because the state wanted extra money to file a ficticious name....
You will need to contact wholesalers to get set up...some may/may not want a large initial order from then order from them a regular basis...lot of stuff to do to get going..

consult a tax preparer or accountant also....

I dabble in several ventures. What I have done is form a LLC. My first one cost me $300 $400 to get the CPA to set it up. Since I know how it all works now, In LA it cost $75 to file a new one. In LA you can use any name if available. Good luck, and remember to file taxes. You could do them yourself, but I advise against it. Pay an accountant a couple hundred a year and be safe.

Admire your initiative in wanting to get something going! The tax number is the easy, easy part. Have you clicked on "becoming a dealer" at either of the sources mentioned? There is you hard part - where are you going to get your finances for the amount of inventory required, and for the turnover in inventory necessary to repay all the costs of operation plus some profit? So, if you manage this, what are you going to do to advertise your parts availability and what capital do you have for doing so? Starting in business requires a lot of business knowledge, not just a desire to get into business. Ask a lot of gift store and restaurant owners who are now closed after opening. Anyhow, still commend you on "doing something".
