Can holes be drilled in a Genny...

Can holes to attach a VR to the top of a Genny for an H be drilled in? Or will that open a can of worms I don't want to deal with? I have a '44 H, and I've been told the "correct" location was on top of the Genny. But my Genny, and the Genny I am hoping to get, don't have the holes.

NOT a problem, unless you drill too deep, and into the windings.

If you want to be correct get the correct generator as the one you have mite not operate with the cut-out.

is yours the one that the VR was underneath the gas tank and not on the generator?

As Bob said, make sure you don't drill into the windings. I myself would not drill holes into the generator. I switched my H to 12 volts a few years ago and my generator did not have the holes for mounting the regulator. I used a headlight ring to hole the VR onto the generator, it fits perfectly and holds the VR on tight. I have also seen people use a large hose clamp to hold it on.
