western storms

here in eastern Idaho just south of Idaho Falls we got about three inches yesterday which melted once it quit for the day but it started back up during the night and we have anouther two to three on the ground and still coming down at 11:50am with a temp of 32 deg. last night I-15 was closed from Sage junction to the Montana border due to blowing and drifting snow. Dont know what the totals are for the Highlands yet.

What's Idaho Falls like? My wife and I are sorta looking around for a retirement place. Colorado Springs is nearing 500,000 people, and that's getting too big. I see that Idaho Falls has a population of about 50,000. I used to live in La Crosse, Wisconsin, when it was about 50,000 people. That seemed big enough for restaurants, shops and whatnot, yet small enough to still have the small town attitude. My sister and her husband are looking to move back to his home town of Boise, so Idaho is a possibility for us, too.

It isnt to bad around here but you need to understand that winters here can be cold with highs no higher than the mid teens for quite some time and lows going down to -30 to -40 deg in late december to early January with highs during this time being below 0 (engine heaters are popular). summers bring highs in the 80 to 90 deg range with lows in 50s. the humidity can get down ito the single digits but usually hangs around in the teens and twentys during the summer and gets a little higher in the winter. fishing and hunting is good and close by in fact you can catch 15lb trout in town on the Snake river. tractor shows are few, and the few I have seen only had 6 to 8 tractors at best. :( Farm ground sells for around $15,000 to $20,000 per acre :( :x. But if you are into forth of July fireworks this is the place to be as everyone claims the one held here is the largest west of the mississippi river and draws people from all over the world to see them. the Mountain River Brewers hold the nations largest beer fest every year that draws some 300 micro-brewers and the big commercial brewers also, $20 gets you in and you get to sample beer all day long. the elevation here is 4800 feet above sea level in town. Yellowstone Natl park is just few hours drive to the north, Craters of the Moon Natl monument to the west, and the Grand Tetons to the east.
