What's it worth?

I am just inquiring for my Dad. A neighbor of my grandma"s is wanting to buy my grandpa"s old H. It still runs and is in pretty good shape. You could restore it pretty easy with some paint and cosmetics and such. They weren"t sure on the age but probably from the late 40"s. My Dad is not to eager to sell it anyway but didn"t want to be taken either. I think the neighbor thinks he"ll get it cheap. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks.

I can't give you an exact value, but if the tires are good and sheet metal is good, transmission works good, I'd say around $800-$1200. If it has options like wide front, fenders, etc, it would be worth more.

Paid $1000 for this 45 H last summer.
But, I sure wouldn't sell my grandfathers tractor.

Don"t even think about selling your family history off .....

I have a freind that thru time and money has gotten his grandfathers "H" and"M" back and he will restore them to pass on to his children.

You can"t put a $ on your familys past, what may seem stupid now will be price less later.

Tuck it away spray it down with oil fill the cylinders with oil , there will come a day when you will be glad you still have it.

Look in my web site I post with this. I have a 1935 JD-B, ya I know this is Farmall but any how. The price tag on that JD-B is $100,000.00 no questions asked not a penny less. It was my grandfathers tractor and I will only sell it if I get the asking price or more so think about what you have and whats its worth because of all the blood sweat and ties thats have been poured into that tractor

I agree with the others. If you sell your family's H, there is no way you'll get it back without a lot of luck and a lot of money. Don't sell it.

a friend just bought a 1940 non-running-but-free engine, flat tires, rusty gas tank, poor hood, nice grille, farmall H with a bunch of (not installed) new parts for $800.
and i'll add my vote to NOT SELL grandpa's H. its a lot easier to keep it than to try and get it back later.

My father-in-law brought a new JD-B in 48. Sold in on his farm sale a few years later, just as my brother-in-law was old enough to really enjoy driving a tractor. Even as a kid he kept track of where that tractor went. Even today yet he is still trying to buy that tractor and the owner is pushing 90 and he is pushing 70.

I"ve sold several tractors over the years, but the one I regret selling was my Dad"s H. Think about it before you sell.

Like most others I would recommend you keep it in the family. I purchased my Grandfathers 1922 International 8-16 from my brother who was prepared to sell it overseas. The last two years that I have spent restoring it have brought back fond memories.
My Aunt was 1 year old when her father purchased the tractor. As the sign says, the tractor, now enjoyed by great, great, grandchildren is PRICELESS.

Only a foolish person would sell the family farmall. I wish my relations had kept just one of ours.....
