Ron, I am having trouble finding out about this tractor. I have had some people tell me they did not make them and some tell me they are common, but it is most definitely a W-9 and the propane looks factory installed, even the hood is trimmed for the propane tank perfect, but I cant find it in any books, but some guys down in texas told me they were common, is there any more information you can give me, it would be greatly appreciated

Ron,

The LPG system on your W-9 is a field conversion. LPG was not offered from the factory on the W-9 or any other IHC tractors of the same era. The Super M was the first IHC tractor to offer factory LPG.

Who made this field conversion, it looks factory, it doesnt look like a homemade job, I mean the paint is original, the hook fits snug around the tank.... just wondering

I don't know who made the conversion, but even though it was not a factory option, those propane conversion kits were manufactured at a factory. Engineers and draftsmen were involved in the design and manufacture, and each kit was designed specifically for the tractor it was to be installed on. Thus it gives the appearance of being factory installed. It is quite possible that your W9 was converted by the dealer before it was ever sold to the customer.

Since you're sure it's a W-9(when I bought my 650D the owner referred to it as a WD-9), its probably also possible that at some point someone took a propane 650 that had died and put all the propane parts onto a W-9.....just a wild guess, but like the other posts indicate, it sure coulda been a well-done aftermarket conversion.

W-9 was from same era as M. There was no Super W-9 but there was a Super WD-9, a Super WDR-9 and a WR-9-S that had super features but engine of standard W-9. I don't think WR-9-S was offered on factory LPG but the 600 and the 650 were and all of the 600/650 parts would fit on a W-9 if someone wanted to swap them.
