stuck H advice

Hi Thanks for all the replies, we have it soaking with atf fluid. It has been stuck for about a year, but was inside dry building.Dave

Well if it stuck just from sitting a week with ATF in it and keeping the plugs in till your ready to spin it over should do the trick. Then pull the plugs back out, you keep them in to keep dirt etc out. Then set a 12 volt battery in it do not turn the ignition on and use short fast taps on the starter button and it will probably spin right over. Stay clear of the plug side of the engine because if it does spin over if your on the side you will take a ATF shower and believe me doing that is not much fun BTDT to many times. Seems once in a while I forget that it will shoot the stuff all over and if your in the way it will get you

Another trick is to engage the hand crank onto the crank shaft and then hang a heavy weight on the hand crank. A rear wheel weight works good. A length of chain will allow you to position the weight close to the ground so if it falls nothing will get damaged. Just let it hang there for a week or so until one day the weight will be on the ground.

Before you try to turn it over , you should pull the valve cover and check the valves. If one is stuck it may break a rocker arm or bend a push rod when it turns.

I've done that many times on one I knew I was not going to have time to mess with often. That way when ever I walk by it I will see if it moves or not. If it has that means its time to stop and check it out if not just keep on walking by

I made a tool for turning a stuck H engine. It is a six foot bar that attaches to the belt pulley flange. It is easy to change position by either using the clutch or shifting the belt out and back into engagement. Once the engine starts to turn it quickly allows you to turn the engine in either direction.

Good luck getting it loose. Let us know when you get it loose. I got a H engine loose that was stuck very hard from sitting a few years outside. Things that work good for me for getting a engine loose are PB Blaster, Brake fluid, Marvel Mystery Oil, Seafoam or Slick 50 ONE Lube.
