Farmall Super C starting

I just recently purchased a Farmall Super C and am going to start restoring it a little along, but it has stopped starting. I just put a new battery and new cables on, but it won't start. Any ideas?

Is it cranking but not starting?

6 volt or 12? And what size cables?

Too small cables on a 6v can lead to poor starting. 0 or 2/0 is best. 4 or 6 gauge are bettr suited to 12v systems, and work poorly on 6v.

You need 3 things for an engine to run: burnable fuel mixture, strong correctly timed spark, and adequate compression.
Which of the 3 is missing? Likely fuel or spark related if the tractor was running recently.
Check it out.

Remove the start switch & check the condition of the contacts inside. Also, check the contact lug on the starter itself. The starter switch probably needs replaced if it is badly worn.

That's not much to go on.

Does the tractor crank ? If not the starter drive might be jammed in the ring gear.

Is there fuel in the carb ? If not, why not ?

Does it have spark ? If not, is there power at the points ? If not, it could be a broken wire or a bad switch. If so, take the distributor cap off and crank it. Does the rotor turn ? If not, the drive gear on the distributor is stripped or broken.

If the rotor turns and you have power to the points, put in a new set of points and condensor, and reset the timing.

Keep working your way through the ignition step by step until you get to the problem.
