M fuel Consumption

I have been raking hay and brush hogging with my M and have been using about 1.6 gallons per hour. Not bad for an old girl. My 400 uses a little over 2 gallons per hour. I guess the trick is keeping up with the tune ups and running the engines at their " sweet spots".

Sounds about right for light work. Hook it up to 3 16 plow running 6 to 8 inches deep in average soil and the sweet spot will disaappear you can cut down on gallons per hour by running at half throttle but that will not do much to help gallons per acre.

You are sure not loading it very hard!

In Nebraska Test # 329, the "M" burned just barely short of 3 GPH while putting out about 36 HP.

I have pulled two 14 inch bottoms and pulled an 8 foot disk with the same fuel consumption. A fellow down the road from me pulls a 6 row planter with his M on occation and he burns over 5 gallons per hour!!

When I bought my M it had been sitting for over 10 years so I took the carb off and sent it out,the man called me and asked if i was sure it was an M and i laughed and said yes,he said the carb was off a 300,i guess farmers did it to save fuel.?
