Farmall 100 id question

I bought what was presented as a Farmall 100. I am trying to confirm whether it is or is not a 100 and then also establish what year it was made. On the right side of the engine block are the following: 1)The number "354898R1" and then "FIRING ORDER 1-3-4-2". 2) Under the most forward sparkplug is a small flat machined area with the letters "FCM" in the upper left hand corner and the letter "G" in the upper right hand corner, and the numbers "116866" in the lower left hand corner. 3)There is also "8 21 (and a letter I can't read although it looks like it might be a W)". Thanks.

John: A 100 should have block number 354898 R2. 354898 R1 indicates it came from a Super A or Super C. FCM settles that, it is SC engine. 116866, still on machined flat surface would indicate early SC engine, and W makes sense as the year code would be 1951. Super C engine will work just fine.

As for the rest of the tractor, is the tractor serial tag still on left side of clutch housing? If so, what does it say? If not, start looking at date codes and part numbers on hydraulic unit, torque tube, transmission, etc. Come back with some of those. We can solve this.

Hugh, Thanks for the info. Apparently, the tractor id number is "2844"- we were able to scratch the paint off and see that. The number on the hydraulic is "357657R5" with also "L 2 27 (and what looks like a 7)". The torque tube has the number "351687R3" with also separately "2 9 (I can"t read the next letter or number)". I didn"t find a part number on the transmission but I did find "2 7 (and A I believe)". The paint is so thick that it is hard to see some of the letters/numbers. In terms of horsepower, how does the Super C engine compare with the 100 engine? Thanks for your help. John

A date code ending in "A" would indicate 1955, which would mean that some or MOST of the tractor is probably a 100.

The serial number 2844 would coincide with a 1955 Farmall 100.

It looks like the engine was cannibalized from a Super A or Super C as Hugh says. The "W" date code on the engine block indicates 1951. I wouldn't worry about it not being "all original" as long as you're happy with what you paid for it, and weren't misled intentionally about its pedigree.

John: The Super C engine will be 3-4 more hp, and most of that will be added rpm. The L code on hydraulic unit would indicate 1966, so it must have come from a 140. Someone obviously built a tractor from components.

Are you sure the sheet metal is Farmall 100? Have you looked in the YT IH photo gallery? Click on Farmall at top of this page, then click on photo gallery. From there you can type in Farmall 100, and it will give you a list of 100s to view. If something doesn't look right you can check other models. Remember Farmalls 100 and 130 have the same sheet metal, 100 is all red and 130 has white grill and white band on side of hood behind FARMALL.

Hugh, thanks for the additional information. I was able to confirm the "A" on both the transmission and also the torque tube. I also reviewed the photos that you referenced- they looked correct. I guess with the tractor"s appearance, its serial number and the "A" references on the torque tube and the transmission, that it is "mostly" a 1955 100. I bought it "as is" so there were no representations. It doesn"t sound like the replacement parts will cause a problem. Thanks again for your help. John
