Here's my W9 on the upside of a repair job. Basically, I had to replace the camshaft and then had a rear end bearing blow out.

I already got it all tore down and have started reassembling. Crank pulley came off fairly easily. I was able to get behind and lightly tap it off. And yes, I had to pull the push rods, lifters, and the oil pump to get the cam clear. I've gotten the replacement cam back in and the oil pan back up, but I'll need to have the lifters surfaced as they have some light pitting.

BTW, I set the engine to TDC cylinder #1 before disassembly, but the punch marks were not in register. The idler was off, so I reset everything per the repair manual.

In addition to this job, I also have the other end of the tractor apart as I lost a rear end bearing. Turned out the left inner axle bearing grenaded in the case. Pulled pieces of it from the inside the bull pinion cage. Didn't bust anything though. The bull pinion bearings are quiet as can be, though I'm going to replace the right inner bearing along with the left. Can't wait to see what a double groove ball bearing costs. I wonder if there is a roller bearing equivalent.

So far I'm into this job around 16 hours and it'll probably be double when the dust settles.

Check the ring gear bolts while you are in there. Make sure they are torqued. Don't know the spec.

I have always thought the W-9 is a hot little beast. It looks like you've got it licked. By the way, in the second picture I noticed the think with the reflectors seemed to have a "leaping deere"... :D

Can do. I've already found that the bull gear retainer bolts weren't as tight as I imagine they should be.

Thanks, Chris B.

That's a JD snowmobile. Pretty fun actually, but it'll toss you off in a heartbeat. Hasn't been run in a couple years, mostly due to the lack of snow in the area.

Looks like its going pretty good for you so far. Gotta love them old W-series.

Let me know if you have any luck finding those double groove ball bearings, if you dont mind that is. Looking for a couple for the differential of my Farmall Regular right now. Tried a couple bearing places in the Twin Cities, but no luck so far. I was thinking of maybe putting two ball bearings side by side to fill in for each one.

My buddy was up in Chicago and I sent the old bearing with him. He picked up 2 of them, plus a pair of seals for the bull pinions. Bearing shop had a harder matching the seals than the bearings. I'll ask about it tomorrow when I see him.

JJ,

Forgot you were looking for a response to this. My buddy was able to pick up a pair of double-row bearings from Motion Industries (old Berry Bearing). $162 each...ouch, but worth it.

Motion Industries has or can get about anything you can imagine. The only kicker is they also may ram it into your backside when it comes to the price tag. Glad you were able to find the correct parts. I would love to have a W9.

Thanks for the info. The local CaseIH dealer is trying to find two bearings for me. So far theyve found one NOS New Departure bearing for it. Now heres hoping for another.
