The T/A on my "59" 460 whines when engaged. Under a load it will stop the tractor and start slipping. I have adjusted it by the book with no improvements. In Direct drive I have no problems. Am I rebuild bound? If so how much $$$$.

yes you are, or just keep using the tractor as is if you dont want to spend money on it. what do you need the T/A for anyway? whats the tractor used for?few people know of the proper operation of T/A on these tractors.

This is a common problem known as: YOUR Torque Is OUT!!! If you don't need it, just use high side & leave the lever ALONE. I install new ones for myself, parts alone cost me about $900. Local IH dealer wants $3900 to put one in Super Mta...

I do not work the tractor. I dont need it to work but I am going to restore the tractor and would like it to work. I am just trying to see what I am getting into. thanks for the help

I have the t/a and gasket kit on hand for $670. I also have replacement ramps and some small parts you could rebuild it yourself. Feel free to send me an email

Can WE SAY RIP OFF HERE .GOOD GRIEF when i was still working on tractors full time you could get a new T/A complete a new main clutch and pressure plate the flywheel ground and all the labor for under 1400 on and older tractor , guess i worked to cheep.

What ya need is a new or should i say a rebuilt T/A assy. and a seal and gskt kit and a little time and a book and a few common hand tools and set of splitting stands . I am sure that once ya open it up you will find a few other things that need attention .

JH: Take Kevin's suggestion, his price is just about correct for rebuilt TA units. I don't know Kevin, except to say he's been around YT for awhile.

That other dude with with the $900.+ in parts, must use $100. bills for a neck tie, and they see him coming

I had TA issues and thought I had it adjusted. I bought a used one from EBAY to rebuild. I later found that it was not adjusted correctly. I used the procedure from the actual Farmall 504 Operators Manual... Best thing I ever bought, next to the IH TC-88 parts manual.

Type in "torque amplifier" on EBAY. There is a TA for your tractor for $599 plus $45 shipping. I bought a good one from a parted tractor on EBAY for $51 plus shipping. There are also gasket kits and manuals on EBAY. I have found when shopping for old tractor parts, I look on EBAY first.

Good luck on your adventure. I have rebuilt one before, not a bad job. Getting to the feller is another story. Major teardown and tractor split. If you decide to do it, change the engine clutch, TA clutch, and have both the flywheel and TA clutch mating surfaces machined.
