E4A mag not grounding out

Well I"ve got an E4A mag on my Regular that is all nice and painted up. Possibly a recent rebuild. The mag works great with good spark but will not ground out when you go to shut the tractor off. Since I"m mag retarded I need your help. Just don"t feel to safe operating her without the ability to shut her down in a hurry.

The Terminal on the side of the mag should attach to the wire going to the movable side of the points. This (when grounded) acts like the points never open. Probably just disconnected, or an insulator was put in the wrong place. JimN

If you take the advance cap off ( the one that the rod attaches to to advance or retard the spark), you will notice a small piece of metal at about 4:00 on the housing that turns. That is the ground point. if it is not bent the corect distance from the mag housing, it will not contact the points connector to ground it out.

Take your cap off and rotate the advance, you will see the piece of metal that I am talking about. When fully retarded, it should contact the points connection, and ground it out. If it does not make contact with the points, carefully bend it enough to make contact.

Thanks guys I will check on that terminal and see if it's still connected. I may have more questions later when I start tearing into it.
