hello everybody. i have a friend who has an old super a that is in need of some wiring repairs. i purchased a manual at the local central tractor store but is doesn"t quite show what i am looking for. i need a wiring diagram. i know there aren"t *that* many wires on this thing, but they all seem to be cut or disconnected somehow without any clear indications as to where they should go. plus, how do i tell if this is still operating on a 6v system?? if i have to do a rewiring job, wouldn"t it be in my best interest in converting to 12v?? i will be using lights, and for the most part it will only see light duty, but it will be used. any suggestions??

thank you all for taking the time to read and help me out.

I convert my Farmall H's and M's to 12V with alternators. Bob Melville has posted some great wiring diagrams on this site. Just search for "Bob M" and you should be able to find them.

All you really have to change when you go from 6V to 12V is the bulbs I think. Open up the light, and it will be stamped on the bulb. "6V" or "12V".

6 volts were positive ground, and if you are going to drop in a 12V, probably make it negative ground. BUT you will have to re-polarize the generator if you intend to keep it on the original generator.

The original owners manuals had the wiring diagram. No need to change that small engine over to 12v and buy all the stuff that goes with it.Next you will be asking how and where do i get mounts for the alt and how do i change belts wiring and more

gene: Right on, any properly tuned and maintained pre 1958, 6 volt, 4 cylinder gas Farmall will start at -40F. Much colder than that and he wont be using SA anyhow. My dad and I personally have started a 6 volt 300 at -40F. Kind of wish it hadn't started, I got selected to drive it the 1/2 mile back to the shop.

Both 6 volt and 12 volt tractors require maintenence, these aren't car or pickup engines. If he hasn't been doing that maintenence on 6 volt, very likely he wont on 12 volt.

gene, i wish i had an owners manual for this. unfortunatly this belongs to a friend of mine. her ex husband was in the process of "fixing" it. it is in pretty much the same condition it was for quite some time. she has been turning the crank to keep it from siezing, but it has no key, (i have a new switch to put in), battery, or gas in it.
as far as 6v/12v, i will just keep it how i find it. if it has been converted, then so it shall be. if not, then i won"t bother to convert it.
as far as maintenance, i have got to get it together and running first.
again, thanks for the input.
