H and M flat belt pulley question

Im trying to buy a flat belt pulley for my H. I see many of the pulleys for sale fit a H and a M. Are M and H pulleys the same size? Will a M pulley fit a H? Are the bolt patterns the same? Thanks Steve

the ih pulleys for h thru 660 have the same bolt pattern. earlier ones have four bolts later ones have eight. they still will interchange. the standard size for an h is smaller than an m. most of the pulleys are made of treated paper but some were made from cast iron.

As Randy said, bolt patterns are the same and H and M pulleys are interchangeable. There are many different sizes of pulleys, depending on how fast you want the belt to run. The larger the pulley, the faster the belt speed. Also, I believe the H belt pulley turns faster than the M and therefore the H came with a smaller standard belt pulley than the M. So if you are going to run something with the belt, then you need to size the tractor pulley according to required RPM of the implement and the implement belt pulley size. If you are not going to use the pulley, then just put on the size that you think looks best.

Both tractors had different sizes avail to run different machiones all depending on if you ran a threshing machine with a pulley that would match the tractor. A F-20 would run a threshing machine better than the H or M unless you matched pulleys to get cycl speed. Seen that happen
