i'm looking at buying an H and the trans has what sounds like a bad bearing when in 1,2,3 & R but 4th is good (direct drive i'm guessing). would this be a counter shaft bearing issue or what?
thanks
Gary

Fifth is direct. It is in the location opposite 4th.

Noisy in the gears is troublesome for a tractor you intend to buy. (iff all other things are very good. Engine compression at or above 100, and even,
Tin good, charges the battery and starts, Tires in fair to great shape, and you are mechanically adept, it might be worth 700 to 1000.
If any of the above is poor, it is a 400 to 500 tractor. JimN

Hate to burst your bubble, but even in direct drive (which is fifth on an H) the counter shaft still rotates by way of the constant mesh gears at the front of the transmission. It could be remotely possible that 4th gear is loose fitting on the splines, and when you are in any gear but 4th it rattles around, but it seems unlikely. Without more information, there is no way to tell what could have happened without just guessing.

thanks for the replys. i'm trading a couple mid 80"s pickups that dont run for this thing. it's gonna be another winter project for me, just wondering how deep i had to go into the trans.
