Farmall rims

I found out today that I have a different style rim on my 1947 H. There are two ridges or mounting spots on my rims. As I looked at the online photos and only saw one. Can anyone tell me what my rims may have come off? I am looking to replace them and need to know what to replace them with. Thanks, Steve

It appears that someone at one time changed your cast wheels and rims from a Farmall 300 or 350. Those rims are called "double bevel" as opposed to "drop center rims" which are on H's & M's. To change back, you would not only need rims, you would also need cast wheels.

Steve: Besides what Bob has said you have a much better rim clamp arangement than the original. The double bevel or bead is not particularly a Farmall rim. Rims became generic in the mid 50s, most row crop manufacturers used the same rim from outside suppliers.

Most of the Farmalls still appear to have 'proper' rims. However I have seen several different wheel centres and rims. A lot of these tractors were supplied on iron/steel wheels because of rubber shortages then when rubber became more easily available a lot of people put on whatever they could get that would fit, as a temporary measure then never changed them. My H has a set of wheels that I have seen on several other Farmalls and on a Case and on an Oliver. As long as the centres fit the axles they were OK to use. MTF

You have either the drop center or double bevel rim, either will work on the factory hubs. From your description, Id say double bevel, and no you dont have to have the hubs from a 300 for them to work.

John, the double bevel rims WILL NOT interchange with the drop center rims on the same hub. Several folks I know have tried it.

I looked at some 300 and 350 photos and it seems I have the double bevel rim. Mine are not rusted just a few bends around the outer rim. Looks like from changing the tire with a litle to much force or running them with a flat. Has anyone heated the rim to straighten? Steve

I guess its an interpretation of who calls what, what. I just looked at Miller Tire and you are correct they will not interchange. To ME, the drop center are the old style rims, like on many tractors today, the the double bevel are the ones with like "steps", therefore I get double bevel.

If it isn't too bad, and all the metal is still there....just let the air out of the tire and break tire from the bead, use a cresent wrench to bend the rim back in place. Add air and you are on your way. If dismounting tires, do it then....James
