66 Series Hydraulics

66 Series Tractors Hydraulic System. A friend asked me to help figure out why he has no hydraulics. I have looked everywhere for a serial number, name plate etc and cannot find one. I am sure it is IH and reasonably sure it is a 66 series by looking at the grill, hood etc. Anyway to the problem: Tractor has loader and was working fine last time used and was driven to a spot and parked. Now no hyd. at all on it. The wiring has been rigged,i.e. safety items, ignition switch etc. wired around. I wonder how the hyd.'s know to come on when the tractor starts. Is there an electrically operated valve that allows the hyd. to come on once the tractor is running or does the hyd work similiar to old H and M which come on because of engagement with clutch and drive train. I know this series would be live hyd. but is the system hard coupled and available when the engine starts or could there be a valve that has to shift to allow fluid to the manual hydraulic lever controls to work. Full of clean oil, no obvious fluid on ground.

The system is a LIVE system . Ya may have just sheared the key on the hyd. pump . You will find the hitch pump in the lower left hand side by the rear axle . Ya may have sheared the input shaft that runs the pumps and PTO and if this happens then ya loose everything , Steering T/A brakes hitch pump and PTO . Are ya sure that it has oil in it .

either bad pump, sheared key or pto drive hollow shaft of pressure plate is sheared, if you have power steering/breaks you key is sheared off on your aux pump

Are the shafts you are talking about external i.e. can I get to them under the tractor or does this require major disassembly. Yes it is full of oil.

Thanks for the help.

As for the main hitch pump ya just a hand full of bolts a gskt and a couple O/Rings . As for the PTO input NO ya have to split the tractor at the bellhouseing .

depends what it is, if its just aux hydralics yes just drain rear oil and remove a small cover on lh side of tractor to remove pump and install new key and lock nut
