What tractors used the small pto?

What tractors have the smaller pto? Just early M and H? I have a F30 and it has big. Any other manufactors use that size? Thanks

As Dad told me--and he grew up on the H's and M's--it was apparently ONLY the H's and M's,and then only thru early 1941. After the early '41 models, they all had "standardized" PTO.

When I went with him as a kid on his many teactor-buying expeditions, he advised me that '39 and '40 H's and M's, unless they'd been changed, had the small PTO,and were therefore worth just a little less than the later models. Various companies made "adapters," but they were a PITA if you also had to install an overrunning clutch on that PTO. A's and B's, as I recall, all had the "standardized" PTO.

The info might not be 100% correct, but it's what I was always told when I was growing up in the Farmall garage.

(quoted from post at 19:33:59 10/01/08) I think 8n fords used small pto
y 1949 8N has the 1/1-8" pto shaft. I put a overunning clutch on it that has a 1/1-4" output shaft. David..........

My early "styled" John Deere B has the small PTO.
A regular sized 540 RPM shaft is 1 3/8 inches in diameter with 6 splines....Superman66

ALL makes used the small ptos some till it was agreed to standarize the size in the early 40s color of the tractor didnt make a difference.

farmall a. farmall h, early models had the 1 1/8" pto but the farmall m never had the small shaft with the model introduction in '39 the m had the 1 3/8" pto. i have had eight '39 m's and i have a lot of farmall 39' litereature to back this up.

I recall reading somewhere that the initial pto standards called for a small shaft for tractors under a certain hp rating, and the standard size of today for larger, as a means to keep farmers from using the wrong tractor and implement combinations. I'll see if i can find the source and report back.

Most all tractors, all brands, used the small size 1 1/8" PTO shaft untill the early 1940's.

I'll second the F12s and add Regular too, I'd have to double check my F20 but I'm not so sure it doesn't have a small PTO.
