Smoking 606 Diesel

I picked up this tractor a couple years back. Previous owner had the engine rebuilt and it has ran great until recently. Engine starts easily and smokes a little on warm up but then when pulling a mower, if the ground is on a slight incline, the tractor smokes (dark grey) quite a bit. Also smokes quite a bit if I increase the throttle. Tractor seems to not have a lot of power either. I"ve changed the oil, cleaned the air filter and have new fuel filters on order. I"ve got a Ford Jubilee that I keep running great but I"m new to diesel. What should I be checking/adjusting?

Well with out seeing this tractor it could be that the injection pump is not timed correctly But like i said i am not there to see it . May need some one to look at it and check the pump timing along with valve adjustment may need pump work .

I have a 504, which is a 4 cylinder sibbling to the 606. I agree, get a manual and check the timing marks on the injector pump. Mine has started smoking and missing under a load. I used the diesel additive (Power Kleen??) with ceatane boost at 2x to 3x strength for about 40 gallons of diesel. Have not had a problem since. I think I had varnish, gum in the injector pump and/or injectors. That silver bottle saved me from having 4 injectors rebuilt.

If possible post a picture of your 606, I have never seen one.

Thanks guys for the info. I'll pick up some of that stuff and refer to my manual on how to check the pump timing. I posted a pic in the Photos section titled 1966 IH 606. Mine has the wide industrial tires and new paint. Again thanks for the tips.
